Philip Van den Heede (Ghent, 4 March 1985) obtained his diploma of Master of Engineering: Architecture – Main Subject: Architectural Design and Construction Techniques, from Ghent University in 2008 (magna cum laude). He was a full-time research assistant at the Department of Structural Engineering, Magnel Laboratory for Concrete Research, Ghent University from 2008 to 2014 and finished his PhD on “Durability and Sustainability of Concrete with High Volumes of Fly Ash” in 2014 (promotor: Prof. Nele De Belie). After that, he carried out postdoctoral research at the same laboratory, within the frame of the SIM-project ISHECO: “Impact of self-healing engineered materials on steel corrosion in reinforced concrete”, in which he focused on the transport properties, durability and life-cycle assessment of self-healing concrete. Since October 2017 he is a postdoctoral researcher of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and focuses on the “Assessment of the carbonation, CO2 sequestration and leaching behavior of potential ‘green’ concrete with supplementary cementitious materials to quantify its actual durability and sustainability”. He is co-teacher of the course “Life Cycle Assessment of Materials and Structures”. He is an active member of RILEM TC-CCC “Carbonation of concrete with supplementary cementitious materials”. He is author of 22 peer reviewed publications (WoS: 20, Other: 2), 3 book chapters and 40 papers in conference proceedings.
